Aasvoëlbad Hiking Trail
Jan 30, 2022
Aasvoëlbad is situated in the Magaliesberg Biosphere between Hartbeespoort Dam and Brits.
The farm offers over 200 hectares of pristine bush and takes its name from natural pools that the Cape Vultures bathe in during the warmest part of the day.
If we are fortunate we may see these incredible birds riding the thermals above us.
In addition to the vultures the farm is home to a variety of plains game, incredible bird life, fauna and flora.
We will start our hike with a briefing from our hosts on what makes the Magaliesberg Biosphere so special.
Our route is roughly 7.5 km long within the foothills of the Magaliesberg. There is the option of doing an additional hike up to the summit for those who choose to do so. The summit route takes you past the actual pools used by the vultures daily.
The 7.5 km is a circular route and offers incredible vistas of the surroundings.
At the end of the hike a labyrinth awaits those who wish to wander through it on a journey of contemplation.
We end the morning with a picnic on the lawns of the reception area.
