Kgaswane Mountain Reserve
May 29, 2022
We return to this wonderful reserve after a long absence to enjoy a full day’s hiking. Part of the Magaliesberg, one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world, the area was 2300 million years ago covered by a shallow inland sea. 300 million years later a 65,000 square km. Pillow of molten rock below the lake oozed to the surface where the edges of the ancient sea were crushed by its weight and metamorphosed into rough crystalline quartzite. The Magaliesberg range was at the south, and a mirror range near Botswana, the north of the inland sea.
We will enjoy a day among a rich bird and animal kingdom. Temperatures here are always a lot warmer. The hike is not a tough one and we hike on a good well used path. We return to the camp site for a braai lunch. You can arrange to stay over at the campsite or in cottages. Contact the reserve for more information.
