Please bring your mask. These can be removed during strenuous exercise, but should be worn when possible.

There are braai facilities – remember your Charcoal and fire lighters.

No radios or pets. Sorry. No claims against the club for loss/death or injury. Your participation is voluntary. Take care. No littering, we leave only fairy footprints!

Leeuwenkloof is a 700 hectare privately owned farm situated about 7 km south of the Hartbeespoort Dam in the Broederstroom area. It forms part of the Cradle of Humankind and is only a 45 minute drive from Sandton/Randburg & Pretoria.
The farm has a unique mix of grassy savannah bushveld, green valleys, indigenous forest, cliffs and rocky mountainous terrain. It has an abundance of free roaming game and wildlife which can ideally be observed on foot in the early morning or afternoon. It is not fenced in.
There are a range of hiking routes available from shorter and easy to longer and moderately difficult. We will have a guide familiar with the farm. The actual route/s will be decided on the day with the advice of the guide. As a group, we normally choose a 10 to 12 km moderate route.
Should you choose to make a weekend of it, accommodation is available ranging from wood cabins, safari tents, group tents or camping. For more accommodation related or general information, refer to the website:

> Meet at Leeuwenkloof reception at 07h30. We start hiking at 08h00.

> Bring a torch if you want to explore the cave.

> There are braai facilities, so please bring a braai lunch and charcoal (not supplied). You may want to bring snacks which we will eat along the way.

> Difficulty rating: requires some level of fitness. See the description above for further details.

> Bring: good hiking shoes, hat sun block, at least 2 litres of water.

Directions

  1. Leeuwenkloof is approx. 80km from Johannesburg (about 1 hour) and 45km from Pretoria (about 50 min)
  2. Directions from Sandton/Randburg:
    • Take the R512 past Lanseria to the 'T' junction (3 way stop) at Broederstroom,
    • Turn left onto the R104,
    • About 4 km further, turn left onto the R3/R400 towards the Cradle of Humankind / Hartbeeshoek Tracking Station,
    • Leeuwenkloof is approximately 3 km along this road on the left side.
  3. Directions from Pretoria Central:
    • Take the old N4 toll road or the R104 past Pelindaba to the 3 way stop at Broederstroom,
    • Continue straight across. About 4 km further, turn left onto the R3/R400 towards the Cradle of Humankind / Hartbeeshoek Tracking Station,
    • Leeuwenkloof is approximately 3 km along this road on the left side.
